Pilot Uninjured When Piper Cub Crashes Into Sea

AUCKLAND., Oct. 30. A Piper Cub aircraft of the Tauranga Aero Club erashed into about 3ft. of water a chain from the shore and the boundary of Tauranga airfield as it was preparing to land yesterday afternoon. Its pilot, A. N. Hollway, walked ashore uninjured. The aircraft recovered by club members was not badly damaged and is expeeted to be serviceable in a few days. A light singie-engine aircraft with a stalling speed of only 28 miles an hour the Piper Cub was approachiug the airfield 's boundary op the Tauranga Harbour slioreline when the aecident oeeurred. Plying speed was lost and the aircraft settled slowly and quietly on to the water. The propeller was bent and the underearriage was damaged through the impact. After an inspection by civil aviation officers the Piper Cub was brought ashore and taken to the airfield.
