The New Zealand Government will soon recompense two Europeans for helping members of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. dunng World War II. Both will receive ex gratia payments of £40. The awards are provided for in the SupplJementary Estimates introduced in the House of Representatives iast night. One payment will reimburse a Swiss^ who helped an officer escape from Italy. The other is to provide an artificial leg for a Cretan who assisted New Zealand servicemen during the campaign on Crete.
