WELLINGTON, Oet. 20. Special provisions relating to the British Empire Games in Auckland early next year, and the Canterbury centennial celebrationa, account for most of the clauses in the Finance Bill (No. 2) introdueed in- the House of Representatives tonight. No amusement tax is to be charged' for admision to the British Empire Games or to any games to eelebrate the Canterbury centennial. Gifts to tke Canterbury international air race council for the international air race from England to New Zealand in 1953, are to be exempt from gift duty. Local bodies in Canterbury are empowered to expend money on the Canterbury centennial celebrations. The Tenancy Act is not to apply to dwellinghouses let for a period of less than a month to visitors to Auckland for the purpose of attending the British. Empire Games. The Bill, which contains 12 clauses, Sxtends to January T, 1952, the exemption from gift duty on gifts of food and clothihg for people in Great Britain. Exemption from the amusement iax . is extended to amateur sports meetings. A condition is that no person partieipating received any pecuniary consideration and the meeting is conducted by the national organisation control- , ling the sport or some affiliated body,and the proceeds are devoted to the furtheranee of the sport. A similar exemption is extended to any band contest, entertainment conducted by the national or regional council of adult education, and entertainment promoted by a society or institution not established for profit. The exemption shall not apply to horse raees or dog races. The Public Trust Office is authorised to set off losses against profit and vice versa, before making payments in the public account.
