Wellington Waterfront Congested

WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. Congestion on the4 Wellington- water front reaehed a new peak today. One overseas ship Was diverted to avoid waiting for a berth and four others lay at Aotea Quay idle for laek of cranes to discharge their eargoes. In 15 overseas ships berthed at Wellington, 30,000 tons of cargo await discharge or clenrtince. Aeeording to waterfront officials, a further 52,000 tons is expeeted in j Wellington in the next eleven days. Officials said the congestion was as bad as at any peak period in the past three years. They expeeted little relief in the near future.
