Athletic Football Club Plans Gymnasium
The Athletic Footbail Club is apparently planning for the erection of a gymnasium of its own, and on Monday night requested the Levin Borough Council for the allocation of a oortion of land 011 the Playford Park Domain. When the letter was 'discussed by the council, Cr. A. W. Parton remarked that he would much prefer to see a communal gymnasium wherein all clubs could train. Cr. D. J. Sweetzer said that the club's application was a matter for the Playford Park Domain Board and it should be referred to it for consideration. There was no doubt that a rugby training gymnasium -would be allowed for.
The Deputy-Mayor, Mr. R. A. Frederikson: Perhaps our arena (council metal pit) might serve. He had been talking to the secretary of the club and had suggestefi that possibly Cambridge Park might be a good site and very central, said Cr. R. S. Antcliff. That ground was originally set aside for an industrial area. It was recorded on the minutes that it was to be a soorts area for an, indefinite period only, said Cr. W. Telford. He moved that the application be referred to the Playford Park Domain Board for consideration. "I think," he added, "that it would be a an asset to. the park." Tfre club's letter was referred to thr board acoordingly.
