Council Also Wants To Know More Of Sewerage Plan
The enginetr employed to investigate the waterworks problems had been to see the cbuhcil three times in the short period he had been on the work, whereas the engineer ■ in charge of .the sewerage scheme, a project of much greater importance and magnitude, was never seen, claimed Cr. R. S. Ant'cliff when urging that he be instructe'd to meet the council and discuss the progress of the scheme to date. "We are spending £104,000 on this job and we want to -know more about what is being done," he added. "Every time we mention sewerage we go into committee," sajd Cr. A. J. H. Allen. "The ratepayers are entitled to know what is happening. They see a lovely big heap of pipes, but they want to know when we are putting them in." , Cr. Antcliff: Yes, it's time we made a start on this job. The Deputy-Mayor, «Mr. ' R. A. Frederikson, said that the engineer would be in Levin to discuss certain matters with the borough solicitors, but.he had been advised that the visit was for a few hours only. He would probably -be free at 2 p.m. and. would be leaving at 2.3.0. Cr. D. J. Sweetzer: Half an hour is not enough time. We want to thrash this thing out and will have a lot of questions to ask him. Cr. Allen: Could pot a subcommittee meet him and ask , him to come up to Levin and meet the council one night. We all want to know what is ha.ppening. Cr. Antcliff: We are paying big money for the job and he is an employee. We should tell him he must come up here. The couhcil do want that meeting. ' Cr. J. Miller: I «favour his coming to a meeting of the council. We have had very little information about the scheme and I think it warrants a speeial meeting of the council. It was decided- that a -speeial meeting would be called on October 31, or another suitable date, so that the council could hear the engineer's report. "The Press should be allowed to attend, too," said Cr. Allen. "Let the public know what is happening."
