Horowhenua Power Board's Loan Proposal
(To ,the Editor) ' Sir, — It does seem extraordinary to me that the Horowhenua Power Board must raise a loan of £70,000 fof sbdditionai reticulation. After abdut 25 years of operation, adihitting heavy initial' expenditure; there apparently is not sufficient in reserve to meet further outlay, otherwise why a loan with its heavy interest charges and coming at a time when restrictions in use are in force. Of what satisfaction will it be to & prospective consumer to have poles and mains if a connection is withheld, as it may be. If new headquarters are involved, why not make do in common with others and wait for . a loosening up of materials and labour? Full information is not to my hand and there may be justification for this loan, but it is not appatent on the face of things. It is vbry easy to borrow but is generaliy a hard matter to repay.' — Yours, etc., HORACE E. HERRING". Levin, Oct. 17. J
