Bullocks In Demand At Feilding Sale
With encouraging signs of pastur growth plus the warmer weather gra ziers eontinued to display a keen inter est in the cattle market at Feilding anc the third day of the spring fair yester day attracted an offering of just un der 2000 head. All lines offered on ae count of farmers found ready competi tion and the forward conditioned sortf found the market very strong with nc change on late rates. The best of the yearling steers made up to £13 11s, com pared with £14 for a top line realised last week. The best of the bullocks solc at £20 5s. Store sheep sold at slightly batter rates for good sorts and fal sheep tended to disclose an easing tendency. Station Cattle The large entry of station cattle, just under 2000 head, demonstrated that there is no shortage of this class of live stock in the- district just now and while business was selective, and many pens were passed in, values for good conditioned grown sorts were slightly stronger on those operating at the first day of the fair a fortnight baek. There were several pens of lirst class bullocks carrying condition, types which readily found favour with fatteners -who bought with more conlidenee with the return of growth in the pastures under the influence of the warmer weather. Top line bullocks made from £19 to £20 0s while others, not carrying the condition, sold from £17 12s to £18 14s. Good three year types sold to £16 9s, 2-year steers from £13 5s to £14 7s 6d, while the yearlings sold made from £10 10s to £13 11s. The saies were: Bullocks, 36 account H. Holmes, Kimbolton, at £18 11s; 11 account Manson estate at £20 5s; 23 at £17 12s; 25 at £17 14s; 24 account J. C. Smeeton, Colyton, at £19 7s 6d; 15 account H. A. Pearse at £17 18s; 14 account H. V. Fat Cattle Thirty seven head of station cattle were yarded in the beef seetion and of these 28 were ox. All were well linished and of the bullocks one pen of 8 Aberdeen Angus were outstanding although considered a.bit big for the.btit?" ehers. They were goody fifni, big bon'ed; sorts and sold at £25 7s 6d representing for the heavy weights about 2s per 100 Ibs better than schedule. A pen of smaller well finished bullocks, more of the type to appeal to the retail trade, was, traded at £22 12s 6d, a price better than the schedule for these best weights. Three coloured bullocks sold from £20 2s 6d to £22 12s 6d and three Hereford-A.A. eross sorts made £20. 'Good quality Hereford and A.A. heifers, numbering 9 were traded at £15 17s 6d. Dairy Cattle
The market for dairy stock was quite as strong as last week but there was not the quality selection offering. Good yearling heifers made to £14 compared with last week's top price of £16 5s which was inadvertently accorded like age station cattle. Saies were: Springing heifers £9 10s, £10 10s, £31, £14 10s, £15 10s, £16, £16 5s, £17 10s, to £18 10s: springing cows, £13 10s, £13 15s, £14 5s, £15 15s, to £16; yearling heifeTs £3, £8 10s, £8 12s, £9 15s, £12, £13 10s, to £14; heifer in milk £9 15s. Store Cattle A good offering of store cattle found a ready market at late rates, prices being, boners, £5 5s, £5 15s, £6, £6 2s 6d, £6 10s, £7 2s, £7 5s, £7 7s 6d, £7 12s 6d, £8 2s 6d, £8 10s, £9, £9 15s, £10, £30 10s, to £11 10s; empty heifers £5 5s, £7 15s, £8, £8 10s, £9 10s, £12 10s, to £15 5s; stag £7. Fat Sheep. Just over 500 head of fat sheep were offered but the overall quality was rather weaker. Values for wether mutton were easier and hogget mutton, in short supply eommanded a little more than last week. Among the ewes there were several good quality pens of meaty sorts but the prices tende'd to ease. Store Sheep . Several pens of the yarding in the store sheep seetion were passed in as buyers were aot prepared to meot
vendors' reserves. The market for all good quality sreep skoowed no change in the overall picture but (/dd pens of really top sheep were a little dearer. Sale were: wether hoggets 140 at 47s 10; 185 at 47s lOd; 25 at 50s; ewe hoggets, 4 at 56s 3d; 56 at 57s 2d; 2-th wethers, 199 at 35s lOd; 82 at 36s ld; 17 at 31s 6d; 110 at 36s; 59 at 38s 4d; 19 at 33s lOd; Down eross 2-ths, -112 at 35s; 42 at 37s 6d; 16 at 34s lOd; 4-th wethers, 154 at 37s 3d; other saies, 7 ewes with; 9 lambs at foot 24s$ 34 ewes with 37 lambs at foot 33s. The recorded saies totalled just on 1300 Lead.
