Scouting At Poroutawhao
Despite the unfavourable weather, a good attendance of parents and friends. assembled in the Poroutawhao School last night on the occasion of the annual meeting of the Scout Committee. Mr. J. Jamieson presided. After a year full of scput activity, the finances are in a sound condition. The scoutmaster, Mr, P. Bartholomew, and the cubmaster, Mrs. Green, presented comprehensive reports ' on the year's work. Finance was raised by means- of bottle drives and a scout concert. -Other activities were the annual birthday party, a hill-billy evening and a Robinson Crusoe evening, as well as all the usual scout training. The scouts enterecl into- their work with enthusiasm. The retiring chairman, Mr. J. Jamieson, thanked all committee members for their assistance, especially in the matter of transport." He made special reference to the good work done by Mr. Green as scoutmaster, Mrs, Green as cubmaster and Mrs. Tait, who had rendered valuable assistance in the organisation of entertainments. Mr. R. Sutcliffe was elected chairman for the ensuing year, With Mr. E. C. Lewis as secretary. All present were elected to the committee. With regret the committee accepted the resignations of Mr. and Mrs. Green, who have rendered yeoman service ever sinoe the formation of the scout group. Several members paid graiteful tribute to them for the very fine work done and for the high state of efficiency in the troqp, This 'feft the committee in a quandary, as the scoutmaster, Mr. P, Bartholomew, will require assistance during the rush of summer work. Finally, pending the appointment of an assistant, committee members agreed to take turns in supervising scout training. After general business the meeting closed with a vote of thanks 'to the chair-
