WELLINGTON, Oct. 11. For 400 members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force at Ohakea and tor their suecessor3, a seaside vacation promises to be both inexpensive and accessible at Himatangi Beach. They will build three very attractive beach houses, each capable of accommodating 12 single airmen or two families at a time. Three building sections on tho beach have been purehased and the fir3t house of 1200 square feet will be erected soon. The plans have already received the Building Controller 's approval.
The beach house project as. the first major produet of the Ohakea welfare scheme which began under the direction of Gtoup Captain A. E. Clouston, D.S.O., a former eommanding officer of the station. It is designed to provide a cheap and easily accessible resort for R.N.Z.A.F. personnel who cannot alford to give their wives and families expensive holidays at hotels and guest houses. The scheme will be financed by the men and women of the station who have already raised nearly £500 towards the first house. So that the project shall not deprive the community of muc"h needed labour for housing, tradesmen on the station will themselves do the building in off-duty hours. The achitect's impression shows a modern spaeious building with plenty of window spaee. The living rooms include a lounge 25 feet by 13 feet and there are three bedrooms on the 'east side eaeh'with 'French windows opening on to a sun terrace. Six hundred macrocarpa trees have been given to provide hedges.
