Rain Mars Bowling Club's Opening
Persistent showers on Saturday afternoon aaversely affected the offfcial opening of the Otaki Bowling Club's green and although the green was declared open, no play took place. Mr. J. D. Avery, president- while cordially weleoming all who had braved ihe elemenis, expressea regret that the weather had "let the bowlers down." He complimented the greenkeepers and their volunteer helpers on the splendid appearance of the green and surromidings, and assured all that a successful season coula be expected. Mr. Avery also thanked Mr. and Mrs. T. McFetridge for their generGus gesture in donaiing a flag pole to the club. Nlr. W. Wiison, centre delegate, expressed regret that centre offfcials could not be present and extended good wishes to the club from the centre. Numerous apoiogies were tendered on behalf of kindred clubs. Amidst applause, Miss D. Avery rolled up the kit.y, with Mr. D. Nobie. patron and the club's oldest niember, sending up a neartoucher. . A social chat while -ppxtakjng . of afternoon tea concluded the day's activities. Further rain at night caused the cancellation of what promised to be an ou standingly successful tournament the following day, over 18 rinks hawng signified their intention of visiting Otaki.
