Death Of Mr. J. D. Brown
- ^ The death oecurred at the Wellington Hospital on Saturday at the age of 77 yeaors of Mr. John Duncan Brown, for many years a farmer of the Kuku district. Commonly known as he will be missed by his many friends who were captivated by his cheery disposition and readiness to help others. Born at Anderson Bay, Dunedin, Mr. Brown spent the eariy years of his life in that district and moved to the North Island in 1899. In that year he married Margaret Currie Dunlop, a daughter of early settlers of the Koputaroa district, then known as Kereru, and pnrchased a farm at Ihakara, Levin. He farmed there, specialising in the breedjng of horses and pedigree Jersey cattle, untiri913, when he moved to a farm at Kuku, Ohau. He remained there until his retirement to Paraparaumu five years ago. A pioheer in the dairy industry, Mr. Brown held executive positions on the Levin Dairy Company, and was for .30 years a director of the National Dairy A ssociation. He was also chairman of directors of the Kuku Dairy Company from its inception. until its amalgamation with the Manakau company. The possessor of a fine voice, he was often heard at concerts in Levin some years1' ago. Mr. Brown was for many years an active member of the Levin Bowling Clu-b, and the Levin and Otaki Golf Clubs. After his retirement, he joined the Paraparaumu Bowling Clu-b. He is survived by his widow. '
