Abolition Of Hanging Not Favoured
LONDON, Oct. 7. The Commissioner of the London Metropolitan Poliee, Sir Harold Scott, told the Royal Commission on Capital Punishment that he was opposed to the abolition of the death sentence. Ile added: "The general opinion of the poliee as far as I have been able to ascertain would be in favour of limitation. The general opinion is equallv against the abolition of the death sentence sinc.e the poliee are eonvinced that it is proteetion for them against desperato criminals. My own view would be in favour of leaving discretion to a Judge to pass sentence of death or imprisonment for life on persons convicted of murder where there were mitigating eireuinstances."
