Athletic Club Committee Meets

Mr. L. Carter presided over an attendahce of over 20 members at a committee meeting of the Shannon Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club, held on Wednesday evening. In a report regarding the recent work carried out on the cycle track it was estimated that over 130 yards of spoil had been used to topdress the track. It was stated that an engineer was to assist the club in laying down the track and with the continued enthusiasm of members it was expected that the local track would be among the best in the district. Several members made mention of the efficient and capable manner in which last season's handicapper, Mr. C. Tremewan, had carried out his duties and expresied regret that Mr. Tremewan would not be available to continuo this season. The secretary, Mr. G. S. Beer, advised the meeting that Utility Posts had offered to donate a trophy for competition this season. The committee accepted the offer and extended its sineere thanks to the firm for their donation. A letter was received from the secretary of the Moutoa Gymkhana Committee asking for the assistance of the club in drawing up a suitable athletic and cycling programme for its meeting, which is to be held on November 19. An invitation from the Moutoa committee for members to compete at the gymkhana was accepted, and it was unanimously agreed that the club should do all in its power to assist the Moutoa committee. Messrs. L. Carter and G. Beer were appointed to arrang© a suitable programme. The following track officials were appointed for the season: — Track manager: Mr. L. Carter; handicappers: Messrs. D. F. Cole (athletic) and D. Richards (cycling) ; assistants: Messrs. D. Patrick and L. Coulter; official starter: Mr. A. Gillespie; assistant starter: Mr. N. Batt; referee: Mr. L. Coulter; recording steward: Mr. I. P. Hemmingsen; track stewards: Messrs. M. Parr, J. Moore, G. McEwen, E. Barber, K. Woodmass and C. Tremewan; time-keeper, Mr. E. Hook; lap steward: Mr. G. McEwen; tape o stewards: Messrs. A. Richards and S. Alexander. The next committee meeting isto be held on October 19.
