BASKETBALL NOTES
Levin Primary School Has Snccess At P.N.
(By "Forward") The Levin Primary School team won the A grade at the Palmerston North intermediate school invitation tourney recently. Competing against five Palmerston North school teams, two from Dannevirke, one from Foxton and one from Tahoraiti, Levin scored 17 points out of a possible 18. Playing for Levin were: — Forwards: M. Knight, S. Rose, A. Rose; cerbres, P. Robbie (capt.) , B. WLliaius, F. Wong Shee; defence, J. Miller, J. Jennings, E. Knight, R. Laing. It is difficult to single out any player for special mention, as their success appeared to be 'due to the fact that their goal shooting was more accurate than it has been at any other time during the season. This, of course, would not have been possible without the determined backing of the rest of the team. The need for accurate goal shooting has been stressed again and again in these columns, and Levin proved for themselves the value of that advice. A. Rose, who has not heen playing forward as long as the others, gained confidence and "popped Lhem in" very efficiently. F. Wong Shee, who was calle'd in at the last moment to replace a sick player, proved herself quite up to the standard of the other members of the team. B Grade Game. A junior team of Levin School girls from standard 3 and 4 took part in the B grade at the same tournament. Although they were not as successful as the seniors, they played good basketball and gained vaiuable experience. The Palmerston North Intermediate School may well be proud of the smooth running of their tournament, and of the splendid way in which their girls enterfcained the visitors. The Levin team's success in Palmerston North proves the high standafd of primary school basketball attained in this district. Although they have played keenly throughout ihe season, Levin Primary have always found Convent A their betters, and Ohau their equsls. Excellent school basketball was seen, too, at the Northern versus Southern Horowhenua games, where girls from all parts of the district played. If this season's young players remain enthusiasdc, they will certaimy be playing firstclass basketball when they reach the senior grades.
