A Grade Badminton Cup To Manakau
The Horowhenua Badminton Association's A grade competition has bfeen wofi by Manakau, who thus become the holders of the Harding Benning Cup. • They emerged unbeaten from the competition and gained 1 10 points. Ohau were second with six points. Manakau also won the B grade competition with 11 points. The College Old Pupils' Cluh is to be eongratulated on the standard of pl^y reached by its members in their first year of inter-club" games. The final game in the A grade competition was between Ohaiu and Manakau, which the latt'er won by 14 games to two. • The highlight was the defeat of L. and M. Staples, winners of the Horowhenua men's championship doubles, by Jim Fannihg and Dave Honore'. The Ohau pair proved superior in all departments. L. Staples was hard pressed to win his singles against Jim Farming, being down 11 — 5 at the changeover. The Manakau ladies proved too strong for Ohau, winning all their singles. . • , Individual results were as fol.ows, Manakau players being mentioned first in each instance: — Men's singles: L.
