Disheartening, Says Rugby Union President
It was disheartening to, those who had worked hard thmughout the season in the interests of rugby to read comments such as those made in "The Chronicle's" Sports Page last week under the nom-de-plume of "A Player." The president, Mr. R. L. Robinson, made this statement at Tuesday night's meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union's management committee. The place to air such complaints was the union's annual meeting, he said, and if that was done they wouid be attended to. As far as the matters raised were concemed, the union could regard the season as a highly successful one indeed if they were the only troubles. The committee had endeavoured to raise the standard of football in the district, and had succeeded in doing that. Writing in such a strain to the ;Press held the union up to ridicule and discredited the hours of work put in by members of the committee and the secreiary in fostering the game, ccntinued' Mr. Robinson. He did not know whether people who wrote such letters thought they wpve promoting the game, but 1 actually they did more harm than good. Probably it was thoughtlessness, concluded the speaker, but nevertheless it was most disheartening.
