Church's Contribution To Canterbury Centennial
CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 5. The first contribution of the Church of England to Canterburv 's centennial celebrations next year, will be a nationwide church congress which will be held in May. Prominent church leaders who will deliver the main addresses are expected to include the Most Rev. H. W. Iv. Mowall, Archbishop of Svdney and Primate of Australia and Tasmania, the Most Rev. R. C. Ilalse, Archbishop of Brisbane, the Rt. Rev. E. II. Burgmann, Bishop of Goulburn, and from the Episcopal Church- in America, the Rt. Rev. S. F. Bayne, Bishop of Olympia ( Beattie) . Churches of the Eastern Paeifie will be represented by the Rt. Rev. Micliael Yashiro, presiding Bishop of the church in Japan, and it is hoped that the missionary Bishops of Melanesia and Polynesia will be present. The Archdeac-on of Manchester (England), the Ven. A. Selwyn Bean, and Archdeaeon C. S. Robertson, chairman of the Australian Board of Missions, have also been invited. „ The general subject of the congress will be "God's word in God's World" and this subject will be treated from three angles— biblical, social and missionary. On Aseension Day, May 18, there will be a service in the Cathedral but on other evenings it is proposed to hold public meetings so that as many as possible may hear the visiting speakers. Meetings for members of congress will be held on the morning and afternoon of May 17, 18 and 19, when it is proposed that each session should be opened by a paper read bv one of the visiting speakers.
