Personal. Miss D. Scott, of East Road, whp has been spending a holiday in the Feilding district, returned home over the weekend. /. JVIrs. C. Mortimer, of " Auckland, is spending a few days as the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Colin Mortimer, Vogel Street. " v Miss • N. MacDonald, of the nursing staff of the Porirua Mental Hospital, recommenced her duties on Saturday after spending her annual leave at Moutoa. Record Low RainfaH. The lowest rainfall for September for almost 25 years was recorded at the Mangaore Power House last month. Only 1.42 inches of rain was recorded. Poor Runs Of Whitebait. Although the whitebait season is well on the way, there have been very few good catches so far. The weekend saw many on the riyer banks at Moutoa, Buckley and Paiaka, but few were successful in even catching enough bait for a meal. Races Attract IVIany Loeals. As is usually the case with a ne-arby race meeting, many local followers of the sport journeyed to Otaki on Saturday. The tjrain and buses were well filled, with many private cars also making the trip. Ideal weather conditions made the visit a very pleasant one. Clock Tower For Foxton. At a recent meeting of the Foxton Chamber of Commerce, a let'..er was received from the Foxton Borough Council advising the result of the recent referendum on the war memorial proposal and indicating that the council had given formal consent to the erection of a clock tower, as decided upon by the publicReady For Opening. The Shannon ladies' rest room is now almost ready for the opening ceremony to be performed. The building is looking very neat with trim flower gardens between the building and the footpath, and the newly-erected fence adds to the attraction of the layout. It is understood that the official opening will* be held next weekend. Sports Bodies Preparing. Practically all summer sports bodies took the opportunity of the fine weather over the weekend to carry out work on their playing fields. The domain was a busy place with both the athletic and cricket clubs at work. ' The bowlers, who have almost completed their preparations, were able to get a few practice games in before their opening, Tennis enthusiasts were also busy doing work about the courts
