Received Sundav, 7 p.m. OTTAWA, Oct. 1. Four British Commonwealth nations ' today paid tribute to Canada and the wartime air training scheme which turn- j ed out 131.553 airmen. The Prime Minister, Mr. Louis Bt. Laurent, accepting the Commonwealth gift of wrought iron gates for the Trenton (Ontario) air base, as a token of appreciation of Canada 's part in operating ihe training scheme, said it was "not too nnu-h to say that the cause of freedoni was saved by the young men who were trained in the great network of air stutions established under the scheme." Mr. Artliur Henderson, British Air F-ec rc-tarv, Mr. James Tliorn, New Zealand High Comuiissinner, and Mr. Fmncis Forde, Australian High Commissioner, also spoke at the presentation. Air IMarshal W. A. Curtis, Chief of the Canadian Air Gtaff, presented siiver plaques to service representatives. These went to Lonl Tedder, Marshal of the R.A.F. ; Air Commodore .T. L. Findlav, R.N.Z.A.F.; Group-Captain C. W. Pearce, R.A.A.F.; Lieut-General Lauris Norstad, United States Air Force.
