Strike Settled In Waikato Coal Mines
| CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 1. A settlement of the Waikato mine dispute was announced today by the Minister of Labour (Mr. McLagan.) j "Following discussions yesterday afternoon with the president of the Northern Miners ' Union (Mr. T. Hall) I made the following offer to the union for the settlement of the dispute at . the Wilton Mine," said the Minister. '"If the union agrees that the dispute is on the question of safety, and it considers it unsafe for the machine man concerned to be employed on the cutting machine in the pillar place, j and that the dispute can be settled by | taking him out of the pillar place and putting him into a solid place under . the supervision of an experienced miner, and replacing him at the pillar place by an experience miner, I will agree to do so on condition that work is resumed at all mines in the Waikato distriet on Monday morning. "I have been informed," the Minister eontinued, "that the union executive met this morning in Huntly and carried the following resolution: 'That this executive committee is of the opinion that the Minister 's offer in the Wilton dispute meets the wishes i of this executive as far as the safety i issue is concerned, and we recommend members to resume work on Monday, and refer the question of pavilling truckers and any other anomalies to an immediate eonference of representaj tives of the union, the distriet mine ' managers and the Mines Department. " "
