Good Health Stamp Sales On First Day
Health stamps to the vaiue of £280 were sold in Levin by 11.30 this morning. The postmaster, Mr. A. V. Morgan, said that the indication at that time was that saies would not be as far forward as they were the first day last year, but nevertheless he was very pleased with the response to date. There was .quite a rush at the counter to'day for first day covers and the staff had a busy time date stamping these for collectors. The Levin Post Office had 1500 first dajf covers and of this number over 1000 were secured by the sohools. Doing sterling work in this regard, were Mr. J. C. Findlater (Horowhenua College) ahd Mr. F. G. Carrington (Levin. School) , who supervised the ordering and attended to the collection and franldng of the envelopes for the children. The Junior Chamber of Commerce has been busy canvassing the business premises, an'd a street. stall manned by women volunteers was operatmg in Oxford Street today.
