Miss Hazel Tews Guest At Gay Party
Recentiy the home of - the Ryder family was at its gayest for the 21st birthday -of Miss Hazel Tews, daughter of Mrs. V.' M. Tews, Otaki. ~ • ' ■ Beautif ul spring blooms decorated the reception rooms, Which, with the pretty. f rocks of the ladies, presenied a bright and aiiimated scene. Relatives from all parts of the country were present to do honour to the popular guest of the evening, who is on the nursing staff of the New Ply- ' mouth Hospital. Delectable viands were served with a handsome birihday cake in the centre, bearing the traditional 21 candles, which happiiy were extinguished in one puff. Mr. Walter Ryder, of Levin, as the senior member. of the family, in an appropriate speech, presented the guest of the. evening with a gold key giving her "freedom of the house." Mr. Neville St. George, as thc greatest friend of the family, spoke on behalf of Mrs. Tews, a : the same time thanking her for the wonderful party she had prepared fo everyone. Mother and daughter were accorded musical honours. At New Plyihouth on the following evening Miss Tews was entertained by the hospital staff.
