Girl Guide Week Opens On Sunday

Gui'des and brownies throughout the Dominion are busily engaged on their preparations for guide week which opens on Sunday with Dominion-wide church parades and a talk by the Dominion president, Her Excellency, Lady Freyberg, over all national stations in the evening. Friendship parcels containing seed, tinned food, writing materials, eXc., are being gathered iii dozens and will be wrapped and sent direct to Rewi Alley's School in China as an international ser- • vice effort. The Chinese Consul, Mr. Wang Feng, will give a broadcast over all national stations bn October 5 and he has sent the following message to the girl guides: "I offer my congratulations to the girl guides of New Zealand for the work they have done in the past and which they are continuing to do in the service of the people. I am particularly impressed by the interest they have taken in the post war relief task of China and by the decision they made to give help to such a task. The spirit of brotherhoad which animates such action is indeed in'dispensable in the building of peace and in the promotion of common prosperity 1 among the peoples of the world. I wish the girl guides of New Zealand every success in their noble effort."
