Retiring Stock Firm Manager Honoured

A wrell-known figure to farmers throughout the Horowhenua dis- J trict, with whom he has been as- i sociated for over a quarter of a ■ century, Mr. G. R. Evahs retires .] today from the position of man- ' ager of the Levin branch of Messrs : Abraham and Williams, Ltd. The : high esteem in which he is held was exemplified at the Levin sale : on Tuesday, when he was the re- j cipient of a well-filled wallet from farmers, butchers and associates in ; the stock and sta.tion' ^business. .Making xhe presentation to Mf. u Evans on behalf of his many friends, Mr.' J: H. Mungavin, manager of the Levin branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., mentioned that his retirement marked the completion of 26 years of servicein the Horowhenua district. The farming community and all connected with it regretted the endto this lengthy and pieasant association, but joined in good wishes to Mr. Evans for a long and happy retirement. The speake'r went- on to say that for the past. 13 years he had worked in opposKibn to Mr. Evans, but a cordial spifit had existed between them and they had never had a single argunient. That spoke volumes for Mr. Evans, who was held in high regard by his opposition, clients and the farming community in general. On behalf of butchers, Mr. M. S. Jones, of Te Horo, endorse'd Mr. Mungavin's remarks and referred to the never-failing coutresy and assistance received from .Mr. Evans at all times. Greeted with applause, Mr. Evans said the function had taken him by surprise. He had endeavoured to give satisfaction in his work and if he had accomplished that then he was well satisfied. He expressed his very warm a,ppreciation of the gift and the good wishes which accompanied it.
