British Cancer Research Advancing Well

WELLINGTON, Sept. 30. Britain was making great advances in cancer research, much of which, although she now had a national hea.th scheme in operation, was still undertaken by private bodies, said Dr. D. R. Goodfellow on arrival in the Mataroa today. The well-known cancer research scholar, Dr. Goodfellow, who has recenty been working in Manchester, is taking up the position of medical superintendent at the Auckland Hospital. About 95 per cent. of the British people were treated under the national health scheme, said Dr Goodfellow. He said he did not come to New Zealand because of objections to the scheme, as suggested in an English publication. His work at the Auckland Hospital would be on the administrative side. He was accompanied by his wife and daughter. His son, who is studying in Britain, will follow in about a year.
