Students And Military Training

AUCKLAND, Sept. 26. University students who became iiable to do their compulsory military training during the y;ear 1950, would have th&ir period of training postponed until the long vacation of 1950-51, stated a letter from the Vice-Chaneellor of the University of New Zealand, reeeived at a meeting of the Auckland University College Council. Reporting to the council, the college president, Mr W. H. Coeker, said no request had been made that University. students should be exempted from service or that they should not fulfil the full obligations required by the Military Service Act. The object of the discussions of the Senate wTith senior members of the services and Secretary of the Department of Labour and Employment, Mr H. L. Boekett, was to diseover how best those obligations could be carried out with the least possible interference with University studies.
