A four-hour wait at Whenuapai before leaving for Sydney yesterday moming did not perturb memhers of the victorious Australian rugby team. After the customary farewell speeches and the loading of the Biedisioe Cup into the Skymaster, the players stood about for some time and then became engrossed in another, less tiring, "national game" of Austraiiaon the tarmac, away from the eyes of their manager, 2dr. R. Walden, a police sergeant. The game broke up when the call finally came for passengers to board the plane. A proposal for a co-operative scheme for hay-baling in the Kiritaki - Maharahara - waiaruhe district was reported upon by Mr. A. D. Dunford at a meeting of the provincial executive of Southern Hawke's Bay Federated Farmers. Mr, Dunford said that a set of rules had been drawn up to apply to groups of hot 'more than six farmers if they decided to purchase a pick-up baler and press their own hay. The total charge per bale to the farmer would 'be 8d, of which 3d was for depreciation and 5d for running costs, and maintenance. The actual cost to piess a bale of hay was in the vicinity of 3d. In drawing' up the rules, a large amount had been allowed for maintenance in order to build up a fund to cover breakages. The depreciation fund would provide that the farmer would be able to recover his initial oilfclay if he wished to leave • the group after a few years. The initial cost for a press would be about £1000.
