Levin Girl Guides Hold Annual Meeting
That the Levin, gifl guides and brownies have the interest and support of a number of local residents was shown by the very good attendance at the annual meeting of the local association reeently. The mayor, Mr. H. B. Burdekin, presided and in thanking those responsible for making a success of the movement in Levin, ex•pressed the hooe -that it would not be long before the Leyili guides had a permanent "home" at Piayford Park. Year's- Activities. Reports of the year's activities were read by Mrs. N. Kirkcaldie (district commissioner) , Mrs. Chainey (captain) and Miss_ Twisleton (acting brown owl). Mr. A. Haley read the slatement of accounts. Mrs. Kirkcaldie mentioned the forthcoming guide week, commencing on October 2, during which a 'variety of guide activities tfiroughout • New Zeaan'd would aim at extending public in.erest and support, and it was hoped to pring forward more Officers for the ensuing year were elected as follows: — President: Mrs. L. J. Hunter; vicepresident; Mrs. G. B. StoteBlandy; committ.ee; AU the previous members who were available, with the addhion of Mesdames Worsfold and Walkley; hon/ auditor: Mr. A. Haey; hon, secretary: Miss V. M. Aim. Mrs. Haylock, divisional commissioner, then spoke on the work of the local associations, which she likened to the ground cr'ew or an aeroplane. They provided finance and created interest in che movement by propaganda, also helping with the. problem of finding suitable leaders. They . raised funds in various ways, but the ideal was to have so many members of the local association that their subscriptions of 2s 6d each provided all the finance neede'd for the working of the local companies. Presentation of Awards. A particularly pleasing part of the evening was the presentation of first class badges to Nan Robbie and Nancy Parsons who, with Mrs. Chainey, were the first to gain this honour sinee guiding recommenced in Levin five years ago. A coioured talkie entitled "World Friendship" was then shown, giving an insight into the joys of . international camping. Tlien the guides and their leaders joined in singing a number of camp fire songs. Supper- concluded the meeoing.
