Fire Alarm Sounded. The Otaki Volunteer Fire Bngade answered a call to premises in Main Street yesterday afternoon. On arrival they found that Some fat in an oven had ignited, but apart from filling one or two rooms with smoke no damage had been done and the services of the brigade were not needed. Snow Perturbs Gardeners. Following a bitterly cold southerly wind on Monday and Tuesday, the Tararuas on Wednesaay were carrying a fairly thick mantle of snow. As many early potatoes and other varieties of vegetables have made their appearance in kitchen gardens, there will doubtless be many an early riser during the next morning or two following this gentle reminder that winter is apparently not yet spent. While visiting the ' home of a friend over the weekend and listening in the small hours to the All Blacks' test match in South Africa, a local resident found that his car had been removed. An early morning search, with the test forgotten, failed to locate the missing vehicle, but peace of min'd returned when on Sunday morning the car was found not 100 yards away from where it had been left.
