Koputaroa Institute Meets
The month'y meeting of the Koputaroa Women's Institute was held recently, Mrs. E. Baker presiding and welcoming visitors and new members. Mrs. D. Pratt's baby was presented with the institute giffc, and birthday sprays were presented to Mesdames Horgan and Good. The roll call was "What I like to do on a wet day," and the motto given by Mrs. Brown was "An optimist is a man who thinks when his shoes are worn out that he's on his feet again." A number of soci'al competitions were held, the winners being Mesdames Horgan, Mackell and Lancaster. The monthly competitions resuhed as follows: — ■ .Savouries: Mrs. Brown 1, Mrs. Chapman 2, Mrs. Ching 3. Florak posy (juniors) : Deborah Guy 1, Marie Brown 2, Shirley Good 3. Spring bulb: Mrs. Keenan. Shrub: Mrs. Hurliman. Flower (junior) : the- afternoon were Mesdames Lancaster and Pratt. KIMBERLEY'S MEETING Mrs. Osborne presided' at the September meeting of the "Kimberley Women's Institute, welcoming members and friends. A vote of thanks was passed to Miss J. Hudson for her work for the institute. Mrs. Hudson gave the hint for the month. A-dainty afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Saint, Greenwood and Guerin. A visitor, Mrs. Slater, won the newspaper advertisement competition and Mrs. Frew the monthly competition. Other • competitions resulted as follows: — F'ower: Mrs. Crowe 1, Mrs. Dome 2, Mrs. Hagan 3. Spray: Mrs. Field 1, Mrs. Evans 2, Mrs. Hagan 3. Glass jar
of primroses (competition by Mrs, Evans) : Mrs. Benning 1, Mrs. Field 2. Jar of polyanthus: Mrs. Field. 1, Mrs. .Aitcheson 2, Mrs. Gilbert 3. The October competition arranged by Mrs. Evans will be a sugar basin'of scented fiowm.
