AUCKLAND, Sept. 20. A serious sliortage of building timber in Auckland is causing concern lo timber merchants and bnilders. The president of the Auckland Timber Merchants' Association, Mr. .T. J. Jackson, said Ihero wonld have to be a rednction in the amount of building or greater. production by the timber mills. Suppiies were not adequate for ihe city when the mills were operating on Government-subsidised overtime but no overtime had been worked since July 20 and the output had been reduced. Several Auckland merchants have stated that under -present conditions they cannot supply enough timber in the right balance to build a house. Papaka p.f rinru, totara and matai in the timber yards 'here are only about 30 per cent of what they were before the war.
