Every club was represented at the apnual fmeeting of the Horo-. whenqa Cricket Association, he.fi in- Levin last night, -the larges'. attenfiance for many years. This ancf the enthusiasm shown in the preparations made for the eonimg stasofi are a bright augury. Those present were: — The presivdept, Mr. G. C. France (ii> the ohqir), Messrs H. Judd and G. E, Bartayd (Old Boys), B. Law and W. Galloway (Levin) , J. McNefie, T. Roach and V. Tippler (Shannon) ," B. Ryburn, K. Rodgers and S. Newth (Foxton), A. Nicp's (Weraroa) , H. Riee and H. O'Btien (Otaki) , M. Keogh ..(Paraparaumu) , J. Horn and A. Lambert (Kuku), N. Atkins and C. Williams (Manakau), and G. Andrews and G. Bell (Hprpwhpnua Col= lege) . ^ The Past Seasou. Another successful seasofi wa? reported by Mr. France in his presifiential reyiew pn behalf pf .he management . committee. It Wa's part'icularly gratifying, he saidi to* see the increased interest in the junior .competition and the suecejss of it. An ev'en better season • should be forthcoming, mqre teams having expressed their wifiingness to enter. The. sehipr competition had been evenly contestefi, various; teams being favourites at different times, but towards the cpnclusion the honours had remained between Shannon and- Weraroa. Con'gratulatipfis were due to the - form'er on their pbpulai; and wel',-deseryed victory. The junior competition had resuitefi in a. win for the FlukU Club, piayihg its first segson in coinpetitive cricket.. The ciub's enthusiasm bpth: pn and off the field, and its hospitality' to visiting teams, were to be commen'ded. Otaki had run a very c.ose second, pnly one point behind Kuku- • The representative season had been iquite successful, continued Mr. France. The G°ldfinph and Cbusins Cup, had been lifted from So.uthern Hawke's Bay, later lo belpst to a strong Manawatu side. Another enjoyable game had been
neid agamst the Brabm Shield team in Wellington] Horowhenua acquitting themselves , well. . The annual match against' Manawata had resulted in a draw. Games against Feilding A aird B teams had been marred by rain. It was to be hoped that during the com-' ing season representative games Would be arranged for junior teams, An ensQuragmg featyre for the eoming season wou d be the use pf the Wicket a.t the Weraroa Reserve, said Mr. France. This had been relaid and " carefuily use.d through the past season, and shoulfi be in- excelient cppdition for ciub and representative fixtures. Supporting the, prpposal, Mr. Andrews bommented 'that. ap far as the juniors were concerned he felt it would do much to foster interest in cricket and improve the atandard of play. The president thought there was a good deal of merit in the idea. He moved that Messrs Anderson and Andrews discuss the matier and later meet the management committee to ascertain if trips could he arranged for the eoming s.eapon. It was seconded by Mr. Rice anfi carried. General Matters. The cpmmpncing date for competition games was fixed for Saturday, Qetpher 29. It was regolved that "writteh nominations of teams for bpth seniQr afid junipr grades close with the secfetary bn October 7. ' There was a brief diseussion pn the affUiation fees, it being pointed out that the charge of £2 2s for senior teams and £1 ls for jurfior teams had beeri in existence for some timo, and the asgociation was finding increa^ing difficulty in maintainfng its • credit balance. It waa eveptually fier cidpd by a majority that the fees be £3 3s and £2 2s. Several delegatps asked that their votes be recprdgd agaipst thp decigion, holfiing" the view that a smaller mcyeasb in tfie junipr fee would suffice. ' A motion was pagsed that a selection committee pf threp be appointed fpr the. junipr diyiaipn anfi that ciuhs forward pprifinations to the association by October 7, fhe management committee to elect the selectors.
