Main Highway Widening Draws Nearer?

A "deputation which wail^ed on the Otaki Borough Council at its meeting on Wednesday night with regard to housing also took the council to task for failing to restore .the footpaths in the vicinity of the shopping area at Otaki Railway. Copies of letters which had been forwarded to the Works Department asking for some action to be taken were read, showing that the 'council was en-. deavouring- to have the matter satisfactorily cleared up. 'One of the members of the deputation, Mr. R. Henderson, said that the council was responsible for having the footpaths restore'd. In reply, the town clerk, MrAlex. Wilson, read an authority which, he asserted, stated that the resp'onsibility was that of the Main Highways Board. Mr. W. Willis asked the council to make strong and repeated representations to the highways board to have the work pushed ahead, and reports were made regarding two or more accidents whioh had taken place in the locality. It was mentione'd that telegraph poles had to be removed and this was considered to be the main cause of the holdup. It was anticipated that a start would be made with the removal of the poles in October. It was also stated that in response to representations made a footpath from the Otaki River Bridge to Waerenga Road had been promised.
