WELLINGTON, Sept. 15. The Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Cullen, today announced the following opening schedule prices for lamb, mutton and beef for the 1949-50 season. Commenting on the Minister 's statement, Mr. G. H. Grigg, chairman of the Meat Producers' Board, conlirmed that an agreement had been reached with the Government 011 the new season 's schedule prices. These increases represent gd pr lb. in prime lambs up to 361bs., gd per lb. on all other classes of lambs, gd p'er lb. on wethers and ewes 6s per lOOlbs. on quarter boef and 3s I per lOOlbs. on boner beef. j In view of the phenomenal lambing percentages this season, especially in , the North Island, Mr. Grigg appealed to farmers to extend their fattening crops in order to increase the tonnage of meat to the United Kingdom. The increased price payable for quart'-r bief offers an inducement for inc. ascd production and for farmers to carry over more heifers for breeding purposes.
