Can Be No Dogmatic Views—Chifley
The Prime Minister, Mr. Chifley, has received a report from Treas-: ury officials of the affects of any changes in the value of sterling upon Australia's economy, says a Sydney cable. He told Ministers that "there can be no dogmatic views about the wisdom of alterations in the exchange rate." . | rency changes will be avoided before the Federal elections. Treasury officials do not expect that Britain will devalue sterling without consultations with Norway, Denmark and the Netherlands. It is understood that Mr. Chifley has sought reports from Australian officials in Wellington on the effect of the recent currency changes which bfought*New Zealand currency to a par with BriI tain.
