Royal Gift To Historic Maori Church

♦ Ofiicial advice hasjbeen received by Rev. P. Temuera that a new altar cloth has been forwarded by His Majesty King George VI to the Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, to be presented at the centenary in connection with Otaki's histnrir. Maori church. Rangiatea.

The new cloth is in New Zealand and has been forwarded to replace the original one presented iby Queen Victoria. It will be recalled that following entreaties made by Mr. Temuera on the eve of Bishop F. A. Bennett's departure for the Lambeth conference, the latter conVeyed a portion of the worn "Kahupapura," the Purple Cloth of Victoria, to Buekingham Palace. The advice of the receipt of the replacement cloth is a real triumph for Rev. Temuera, who has cherished the hope from the

time the discussion of the repair and renovation of Rangiatea was first mooted that Their Majesties' interest could be created. The important news just to hand. is a fitting reward for his 36 years' service. The Governor-General, Sir Bernard Freyberg, has completed arrangements to take up residence in Auckland from December to March for the Empire Games, and the local committee now awaits his acceptance of a suitable date for the centenary. A new organ has also been secured locally.
