"Without Prejudice"
Insanitary and untidy habits by "weekenders" at Waikanae Beach were alleged' by a resident in a letter to the Horowhenua County Council's monthly meeting yesterday. He headed the letter "Without Prejudice," and 'proceeded to outline what he described as "terrible" sanitary conditions and the dangers which they caused to the steadily increasing population. "There are open earth closets at many of the haches, some of which are left in a- bad state when weekenders; go back. This, of course, hreeds, flies and bluebottles. I have never seen so many before in a civilised- built-up area. No wonder there is such a high incidence of certain diseases in t rA country. ^ fi "I have- frequently seen waste thrown out of the doors of dwellings, neither burnt nor buried. I understand that this -county has no rural sanitary powers; but consider that if steps are not taken soon the next summer will bring big trouble." The council referred -the matter to the health inspector, Mr. W. JGuinan, for an investigation and report.
