No County Grant For Levin School Jubilee
"It is a very fine thing to have these jubilees, but as a county council with a 'district stretching from Waikanae to Tokomaru we cannot possibly extend financial support to them," said the chairman of the Horowhenua County Council, Mr. A. M. Colquhoun, when commenting on a letter received by the council yesferday from the Levin School -Jubilee Committee. The letier ■ requested the board's consideration of a donation to. the jubilee funds. Mr. Colquhoun said that the council had over 12 schools in its area and if it suppoiued one it would have to support them all. The council was nou like a municipal body in that it had no power to give money for social events such as jubilees. The unauthorised expenditure allowance could not be stretehed to untold limits, he added, when replying to a question from a council member. It was decided " to write to committee stating "that the council unfortunately could not give it financial support, but it would extend moral support and. every hope for a successful jubilee.
