Splashed In Fountain In Trafalgar Square
LONDON, Sept. 12. Miss Shirley May France, the 17-vear-old Ameriean Channel swimmer, was not the only yo\nig woman who was foreibly brought out of the watei this week. While Miss France was malcing her attempt -to swim the Channel, a Mar gate typist (Eileen Fox) was taken in charge by two policemen for swim ming, or rather splashing, in tlie shai low basin of one of the new fountains in Trafalgar Square. Miss Fox made two appearanee. On the first there were no policemen pre sent, and when she snddenlv threw ofi the frock she was wearing over a bathing dress and jumped into the pool an en\dous crowd applauded, and a passing photograplier got her to pose withoul interruption by anthority. On the following day, however, when Miss Fox attempted to repeat her per formance. this time in a dift'erentcoloured bathing suit, two policemen sternly ordered her out, took her name and warned her that proceedings would follow.
