The easualty wards and even ma® ternity hospitals were swamped by the screaming children and anxious parents, but after treatment all but a few of the children went home'. j ... Many other Redfern children and adults also became ill from the same cause and were treated at their hdmes. The poiice believe that the children obtained the nuts as the result of a raid on a carrier's lorry parked in a Redfern street. The lorry contained bags of tung oil nuts on the way to the mills for refihing. Tung oil is used in the preparation of paints and varnishes. The children claim that they Were given the nuts by the lorry , driver, but bystanders say that they • swarmed over the lorry and opened three large bags of nuts on the unattended truck. They cracked the nuts on the kerb and within a few minutes were vomiting and foaming at the mouth. Some appeared paralysed and unable to move:
