Fines For Building Breaches
Two charges of erecting building without first obtaining a permit were preferred against Jack Cotterill in the Otaki Court last week. Messrs F. H. Critchley and H. J. Fell, J.'sP., were on the Bench. In answer to the first charge, defendant said that he was under the impression that the owner had secured a permit. The second charge referred to a building bought at auction, which he was engaged to shift. When shifted, the owner had decided to alter it. This building had not been touehed following; the building inspector's visit over three months ago. The Bench pointed out that permits had to be secured. A fine of £2 10s on each charge was impose'd, with costs and solicitors' fees totalling £3 2s. A. Shearing was charged that he (1) established a convenience without a permit and (2) that he connected a drain while not a registered drainlayer. Defendant pleaded guilty and told the court that his client, an elderly lady, had tried for months to get the work 'done and he had been implored to help her out. He expressed regret for his breach. Fines of £2 10s with 10s costs and solicitor's fee of £1 ls on each .charge were imposed.
