Reign Of Terror Ruling In Chinese City
^ HONG KONG, Sept. 12. The pro-Leftist newspaper Takungpao reported today that a Teign of terror was ruling in Kunming, capital 1 of Yunnan, as Governor Lu Han put into effect the decisions of his confer- ■ enees with Chiang Kai-shek to reorganise the provincial Government and oliminate pro-Communist elements. Fivo morning, three evening and two weekly newspapers have been closed down and the staffs of the morning papers detained, said Takungpao. Another Chinese report said 18 members of the Yunnan political council were arrested. Lu Han also took aebon to close the National Yunnan University and the Normal College which he deseribed in a statement as hotbeds of comniunism. Lu Han ordered redoubled efforts in the province to suppress the Communists and support Ihe Nationalists in the civil war.
