Fund Set Up To Improve Cricket
WELLINGTON, Sept. 12. Wellington cricketers, both town and country, will have in future an incentive to improve the standard of' their game. This incentive will take the form of a fund from which there should be an annual income of at least £10u and probably £125, j which will provide initially trophies for live different phases of the game. Details of the seheme were given at tonight 's annual meeting of the Wellington Cricket Associatiou. The fund is to be established by Sir (;harles Norwood and it is proposed to award trophies for the following: — Cricketer of the year, most improved batsman of of the year, most improved bowler of the year, most improved fieldsman, including wicketkeeper, of the year, most improved all rounder of the year. Besides improving the standard of cricket, it is felt that sueh a scheme would also help foster among players the true spirit. of the game which represented so much that was good in the national character. One of the trustees, Mr. W. P. Walker, said Sir Charles felt that if the spirit of cricket could be maintained in other walks of life, many of the every dav troubles would be made much easier.
