Dominion Golf Tourney Commences
HASTINGS, Sept. 11. Theje was a sensation in the New Zealand amateur foursomes golf champoinsMps which concluded at Bridge Pa links, Hastings, over the weekend. B. M. Silk and J. P. Collins (Wanganui) and J. Holden and E. V. Sutherland (New Plymouth) who carded two rounds of 73 each on Saturday to tie With aggregates of 146, tied with another hrace of 73 's in the play-off over 18 holes on Sunday morning. There will be no further play-off and Silk and Collins and Holden and Sutherland will share the title. The professional title was won brih liantly.by N. H. Fuller (Waitikiri) and J. W. Waite (Auckland) who carded an immaeulate 70 on Saturday afternoon to give them an aggregate of 145. Sutherland and Holden, co-holders of the amateur title, were also joint holders in 1947 when they shared the title with W. B. Reilly and I. A. Ewen. Silk won the title with Hornabrook in 1938. Brilliant weather continued for the play-off which was witnessed by a large gallery. Both pairs had their moments of greatness and the issue was in doubt until th® last putt had been holed.
