Short Supplies Of Green Vegetables

Cabbage, cauliflowerSj lettuces, spinach and pumpkins met with a keen enquiry, while "early consignments of broad beans realised excellent values. Marked increases were shown in the returns for Meyer lemons, while . all citrus frui'ts met with a strong 'demand. Consignments of flowers have not been heavy and some good values were shown. Yardings of poultry during the week have been small and there is a very strong demand for all prime birds, turkeys realising 2s 3d per pound live weight. Quotations are as follows:—* v Vegetables: Artichokes, 4s to 6s; cauliflowers, 30s to 41s 6d all sacks; asparagus, 3s 6d to 4s 6d; beans, ls lOJd all pounds; beetroot, 6s to .12s;"; spring cabbage, 7s to 18s; choice lettuce, 28s to 38s; leeks, 6s to 11s; marrows, 12s to 16s; parsnips, 8s to 12s; rhubarb, 15s to 20s; silverbeet, 3s to 6s; spinach, 38s; white turnips, 6s to 8s all cases; carrots, 4s to 5s; swedes, 3s to 4s all sugar bags; kumeras, wanted; new potatoes, ceiling price; onions, 12s to 20s cental bag; mint, 4d to 8d; parsley, 6d to\9d; radish, 8d; Chinese cabbage, 9d to ls ld celery, 2s to 2s 6d all bunches. Fruit: N.Z. .grapefruit, 9s 6d to 14s 6d bushels; meyer lemons, 10s 6d to 13s; tree tomatoes, 12s to 16s 6d; chinese gooseberries, 30s to 42s all half- cases; passion-fruit, 4s 6d to 7s per dozen. Flowers: Poppies, 3s to 7s 6d; 'daffodiis, 5s to 15s; freezias, 8s to 14s all gross; violets, 3s to 4s; boronia, 7s to 11s; tulips, 3s 6d to 6s per founch.
