Drunken Seaman Wrecks Half-Sister's House
DUNEDIN Sept. 9. Runuing aniok in a house in Eglinton Road yesterday, John Michael McGurrin, aged 27, a seaman and labourer, broke windows, tore off doors, damaged wallpaper and broke up ckairs, a radiu, bath and otlier furniture valued at ovei £50. ' In the Magistrate's Court this morning McGurrin admitted charges of drunkennes and mfschief. The poliee stated that the house was occupied by accused half-sister, McGurrin, who was under the influence of liquor, went there with two friends and began breaking up the furniture behaving hke a "raving lunatic. " Counsel for McGurrin said he was "mad drunk" at the time. McGurrin he added, had always been on good terms with his half-sister and could not ex-' plain his conduct. Mr J. G. Warrington, S.M. fined McGurrin £1 on the drunkenness cliarge and admitted him to probation for two years on the charge of miscliief conditional upon his making jfestitutioin to his half-sister and taking out a prohibition order.
