Frocking And Decorations Feature Of R.S.A. Ball

The Levin Returned Services' Association has set a high standard in social functions during the past few years, and last night's annual ball was no exception. The hall was comfortably filled, there being a large number in attendance. Chief guests of honour were Mr. aiid Mrs. W. Lett, who have always been. keen supporters of the association and to whom the returned men of this disfrict owe a great deal. The president of -the association, Mr. N. M. Thomson, and Mrs. Thomson and members of the executive were among those present. ApPlogies for absence were received from the Mayor and Mayoress Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Burdekin, the Dominion president of the R.S.A., Sir Howard Kippenberger, and others. Soft lighting, gay frocks and artistic decorations combined to create a bfight atmosphere and to the music df a six-piece professional orchestra dancing was continued uutii 2.30 a.m. v. On entering the hall attention at once focussed on the orchestral stand, which was #urrounded by giant hand-made Fknders poppies realistically "growing" in their fresh and dainty greenery. During the evening coloured balloons were released and floated am'ong the dancers, giving a party atmosphere to the hall, while a red, white and blue steamer dance furthered the festive air. Tickets were issued for a sitdown supper, which was excellently served and in liberal quantity. During supper extras were -played by Mr. and Mrs. W. Neville. The committee responsible for the smooth running of the function was as follows : — Mesdames "N. M. Thomson, W. H. Fraser, L. Hair, E. D. Wilcox and A. I. Saunders, Misses M. and A. Fletcher, Messrs. P. Young, N. M. Thomson, J, and L. Allen, N. Atkinson, W. H. Fraser, S. Atkins, J. J. Gallagher, M, Nash, T. Mayne, J, Inkster, S. Atkins and Drs. S. J. Thompson aiid E. T. G. Miller. The committee is also extremely grateful to those many other willing helpers who rallied round and assisted' it, including Messrs. Gappers, Ltd., and the Legion-of:Erontiprsmen.-
