Delegates Meet For Parleys On Dollar Probiem

Received Thursday, 10 a.m. WASHINGTON, Sept. 1. British, Caiiadi&n aild United States delegates today exprpsS* ed confidence that a basis for solving Britain's dollar prob: lem could be fouild. The chief delegates of the three nations made this appraisal oi the situation as they met for a five=day conference to discuss both short and long term means of dealing with the sterling area's continued dollar deficiency. The British Fofeign Secfetary, Mr. Ernest Bevin, strttck the keynote for Britain by saying that the United States, Canada and Britain must "harmonise all our political, financial and economic actions-." He said that was necessary to lay the correct foundation for the future peace of the world. The United States Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. John Snyder, who is president of the conference, said: "I feel sure that on this occasion in an atmosphere of friendly and constructive conversation and discussions we can find some ground whereoh to work out tj^e problems that are facing us today — not only in the United Kingdom, Canada and the United States but in the world."

Mr. Douglas Abbott, the Canadian Finance Mihister, said he too felt sure "that these discussions will result in our finding some helpful way of meeting these difficulties." He added that the problems facing the conference Were of vital interest to Cahada.
