Received Tuesdav, 7 p.m. HOXG ICONG, Sept. 6.Chinese despatches from Canton Today- said the Xationalist Government is seeking a political settlement with the Yuuah leaders in preference to using drastic measures to restore tho positiou in Kunming. Latest reports from Kunming sav the city is cpiiet but tenso after a brief period of confusion. Lu Han's Peace Preservation Corps regiments are massed in and around the city and have complete control. Telegraphic, telephonic and some air conneetions between Kunming and the outside world have been restored. British warships are escorting merchantmen through the Xationalist bloekade of Xorth Ohina, according to the Australian newspaperman, Michael Keon who reached TTong Txong today. hTr. Keon, who had been at Peiping finis months, including seven under Communist rule, said the vessel Hunan in which he eame south, was at first unable to leave the Communist port of Tangku beeause three Xationalist gunboats were waiting outside the river. Then a British destroyer arrived and escorted the Hnnan and another British ship, the Choysang, through the bloekade as far as the Shantung peninsula. Mr. Keon said the warship went nhead of the merehaiitmen with all lights b'az ing all night long and then parted earlv in the morning. The TTunan and Chovsang are both British coastwisc ships.
